Question 1 a) DNA replication is the process in which a cell passes this DNA sequence onto other cells when it divides which is known as mitosis as it must duplicate its genome so each new cell has a copy. This occurs during interphase. During DNA replication the enzyme DNA helicase are important as they separate double-stranded DNA into single strands allowing each strand to be copied. DNA polymerase are another important enzyme that starts attaching new complementary nucleotides to these templates. It is done according to the base pairing rules, A=T, C=G, G=C and T=A. Once the new nucleotides are attached, two new sister DNA strands are formed same as the original strand. The result is two identical strands, each of which is half new. b) mRNA is a translation of DNA into a convertible protein substituting T with U. The template strand shown is the 1st step of transcription and it is transcribed to: GTA GAT TGG GGT CTC CTC. Each of the codons codes for a particular amino acid.
